These
notes will reveal that people who tried to use them, almost managed to
clean off the original Red overprints of "Military Administration of
Burma, Legal Tender in Burma Only" thereby trying to use them as legal
tender in India. In the 1940's, 10 Rupees was a pretty good sum for poor
or middle class Indians and some may have tried to cash in, if these notes
came in their hand. I am not aware if these overprints were bad enough to
get faded, because all of the notes which I have seen coming up regularly
on eBay do not seem to show any indication of overprints fading even after
more than 60 years of issue. Information provided by numismatist Percy Phiroze Siganporia. SP/DC We gratefully acknowledge Stephen Prior and Don Cleveland PPS We gratefully acknowledge Percy Phiroze Siganporia for submitting images and the prefix information used in this section. |
